Grange Immobilier
A PROPERTY MANAGEMENT COMPANY INSCRIBED IN GENEVAN HISTORY
In 1869, in a time when the lightbulb had yet to be invented, François-Louis Grange decided not to follow in his father’s footsteps as a grocer and partnered with Louis Carey to set up the Carey & Grange property management company on place du Molard. He would cycle from door to door, collecting rent from his tenants, recorded his accounts by sheer will and drafted lease agreements by the quill. This period marked the first property management companies in Geneva.
Our city was surrounded by its fortifications and could only expand upwards. Apartment buildings replaced houses, encouraging owners to seek help in order to manage a larger number of units. This was the start of our adventure.
Every generation of the family has added their brick. For François-Louis’ son, Jules Grange, his satisfaction came from human contact. He managed a few buildings, from basements to lofts, humbly taking care of all aspects. His sons Bernard and Philippe developed the business by branching out into sales and brokering. Later, when twin brothers Jacques and Michel took over in the 70s, the market was in full expansion. They continued to develop the company, notably with the management of property companies through their fiduciary department, while affording the same significance to the sense of availability introduced by their grandfather.
A GENERATIONAL HERITAGE
150 years of history and, today, the company is still owned by the family. For several decades, the four representatives of the 5th generation – Béatrice, Cyril, Nicolas and Yves – have breathed new life into the company and have brought it to unprecedented levels of success. Today, it employs around one hundred employees, manages several thousand properties and has developed real expertise in brokerage, investment and development. While the trade has changed with new diversifications and the advent of new tools, one thing remains the same: the desire to “shape” the city, to shake it up, wake it up, satisfy, motivate and develop it. GRANGE Immobilier will always strive to be a key player in local life, culture and well-being.
TOMORROW
More recently, Julien – Yves’ son – joined the shareholding and the company’s Board of Directors. With his arrival, the 6th generation of the family is now represented. His aim: to help the company change with the times, whilst protecting the fundamental values of the family adventure. To keep one eye on the future while keeping the other on the experience of the past.
“Our property management company has grown organically, preserving the availability and proximity that has characterised us since the very first day.”
